5 Things you understand before you jump into Paid Online Advertising

Paid advertising is one of the great ways to have quick traffic directed towards your website/blog/social media. To get more traffic in less time, a lot of bad decisions are taken in a hurry. You might end up getting huge traffic in comparison to your competitors but the quality is compromised.




Just the other day, I was speaking to a business man who sells electronic gadgets. They spent a huge sum on Google Adwords for online advertising, in return they were receiving new leads, but leads where for those electronic items which they don’t even sell. It happened because the keywords chosen were too broad and territory selected was huge.

How do we make sure that our paid advertising is performing as it should be? There are various ways which can assure us that we get a proper ROI on our investments.

1. Know who you are targeting

You should know your audience well, suppose you are selling shirts, your target audience on a broader level are men, but we have to narrow it down to ‘men above 30 into service or business’.

We have to narrowed down on categories rather than leaving them on broader choices. So it’s important to narrow down as much as possible for most effective results.

2. Know your territory


Paid ads are the easiest and fastest way of reaching out to the audience but if the audience is not rite, it’s not worth it. Hence getting huge traffic is not important but quality traffic is. If you have a limited geo audience you have to narrow it down to get the best quality results. Suppose you run a school in Malaysia, Damansara Uptown. So your audience cannot be from all over Malaysia but from surroundings of Damansara Uptown. Then you filter it down further according to age, profession etc.


    3. Know your keywords
The most vital parameter off all. It’s a 1st step towards making a perfect ‘seo’ plan. If keywords choose are too broad or general. You might end up losing a lot of money gaining nothing. So the process is choosing close variants after scanning your website and narrowing it further down on the basis of popularity and low competition. There are various software’s like Google Keyword Planner, Semrush and many more that helps in identifying the search volume & competition of a keyword.

       4. Know your channel
Its not necessary that if you are opting for paid ads, google is the only choice available. It all depends on where your audience is. Therefore for selling ‘B2C’ facebook and google is the best option. For selling ‘B2B’ LinkedIn and some important online magazines are the best platforms & for aggressive players you can go for google ads and partnered website ads.
So be rational in choosing your correct channel, you don’t need to advertise on each and every channel.

    5. Tracking the right landing pages
Now your keywords are set, all paid ads are set. Now we move on to the most important aspect the tracking of pages. The best process is to let your ad run for 1 quarter to judge which of the products are performing well, which are not and which once need a push. Understand the dynamics and choose accordingly. Once you start analyzing the traffic, you will understand the products which do not need attention. Remove tags from those. Example – XYZ Company chooses to tag only the ‘thank you pages’ off all products. While other choose to tag different layers of products to understand the product behavior. So it is upto you to decide what is important for you in terms of tracking. ‘ROI’ or ‘consumer behavior’.

Before going to stick to paid media person should have alert of budget in order to surpass the envy and achieve more over internet platform. Survey found that online marketing medium is mandate these days to reach more customers with less effort.
